Signs Your Vehicle Needs Suspension Service

Shocks and struts wear out gradually — most drivers adapt to a deteriorating ride without noticing until handling gets genuinely unsafe. If you recognize any of these symptoms, it's time for a suspension inspection:

• Bouncing after bumps: The vehicle keeps rocking two or three times after a dip or railroad crossing instead of settling immediately.
• Nose dive and squat: The front end dips hard under braking, or the rear sags under acceleration or when loaded.
• Uneven or cupped tire wear: Scalloped, choppy wear patterns are a classic signature of worn shock absorbers that can't keep the tire planted.
• Drifting or swaying in corners: Excessive body roll, or a vehicle that leans and wanders through turns and crosswinds.
• Fluid leaks on the strut body: Visible oil streaks on a shock or strut mean the damper has failed and needs replacement.
• Knocking or clunking over bumps: Often worn strut mounts, bushings, or other suspension components — caught early, it's a cheaper fix.
• High mileage: Most shocks and struts are meaningfully worn by 50,000–100,000 miles, even if nothing has "broken" yet.
